Bulkheads

High Mark’s bulkheads are designed and built to fulfill their true purpose – to make servicing washing machines easier.

Because our bulkheads are delivered ready to install – shaving three weeks off the construction schedule – they are also easily accessed. Machine service people don’t have to virtually destroy High Mark bulkheads to reach machine belts, plumbing or electrical work as they do with those built out of wood or with cross braces that block access in favor of holding the frame together. With a High Mark bulkhead, it takes only 45 minutes to replace a machine belt, compared with four hours needed for a bulkhead the repairman has to unbolt.

High Mark’s bulkheads come in widths of 14.5 inches, 22.5 inches and 30 inches, and we make the length to your specifications. And because our bulkheads are a UL-listed (Underwriters Laboratory) appliance, buyers can finance them with the other equipment they purchase for their laundry facility and depreciate their value on future tax returns.

Our bulkheads’ standard features:

  • We use quarter-turn stainless steel ball valves that allow for shut on/off water service, versus boiler drain valves, meant for draining only every six to eight months. A boiler drain valve shut off for too long would leak and need replaced, but a stainless steel ball valve could be off for 100 days or six years and never cause a problem.

  • The bulkhead frame is galvanized rectangular tube steel, which means it is sealed to protect it from rust that painted metal is vulnerable to and it is immune to rot common with wood frames. The rectangular shape means it requires fewer supports to make it sturdy and straight, as necessary with L-angle frames, and provides easier access to the back of washing machines.

  • All of our bulkhead cover panels are made with nonporous, water-resistant Medex board -  never with particle board, which retains moisture and swells, causing the edge banding to peel off.

Optional features:

  • Doors installed on one end of the bulkhead provide the easiest access possible, and the wider bulkheads are big enough for a person to crawl in to service machines.

  • Upgrade from our standard melamine finish, which comes in white, gray or almond, to high-pressure plastic laminate, available in 200 different colors at one price.

  • Replace AquaPEX plastic withcopper water lines.

  • Include a hot water-return line that provides instant hot water even in the bulkheads farthest from the utility rooms.

  • Instant hot water heater installed.
